| How Do I Maintain My Lawn? |
 |
Effective Watering for established lawn
Soak your lawn (15 to 20mm) once or twice a week in summer to encourage deeper root growth. Water between 5am & 8am or in the evening between 7pm & 9pm to minimise evaporation, and the use of a wetting agent is benificial for retention of water.

Mowing No more than 30-40% of the leaf should be removed in any one mow. Keep mower blades sharp and avoid cutting grass when wet. Mowing height is an important factor in promoting healthy lawn. Kings Pride Soft Leaf Buffalo is best mown at 20-40mm in full sun areas. In a shady position it should be mown longer at 40mm-50mm. In spring your Kings Pride Soft Leaf Buffalo can be mown down to a height of 15mm (except in shady areas) and fertilised. This removes the thatch build up in your lawn and allows new stolon growth, but only when thatch is building up. In Summer mow every 1-14 days. Autumn and Winter every 2-5 weeks, only if necessary.
Watering Even though Kings Pride Soft Leaf Buffalo is a drought tolerant lawn, it still needs some water to survive. To maintain a healthy green appearance, as a rough guide, the following amount of watering is required assuming no natural rain fall: Summer (over 30 degrees)3 times per week for 20 minutes, Autumn and Spring 2 times per week for 15 minutes, Winter once a week for 15 minutes.
Weed Control Broadleaf sprays control clover, bindi and broadleaf weeds and should be applied before flowering at the end of July as a preventative. Buffalo requires a weedicide registered for its specific use. Suggested chemicals are CleanLawn, Searles Buffalo Master & Searles Bindii & Clover Killer (before using any product, always read the Product label for full directions, application, safety directions and guidelines).
Fertilise To help maintain colour during winter, beef up your lawn with nitrogen and iron during Autumn. Fertilise again in the spring to help maintain a green and healthy lawn.
Compaction Any time is a good time to aerate your lawn. Dig a gardening fork in about half way and wiggle it. Prolonged compaction and moist conditions encourages the roots to grow on the surface creating thatch.
Repairing the lawn All lawns will suffer if they are repeatedly driven or walked over. Even dogs will wear a track in the toughest of lawns. To repair the lawn, first you may need to add more soil to fill holes, then take some runners from the existing lawn, plant them in the bare earth and keep damp for the next couple of weeks. Do not walk on this area during this time. |
